- Obituary for Archie Earnest Walen
Archie Earnest Walen, 93, of Delhi, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Luther Manor Grand Meadows in Asbury, Iowa. Visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 with Funeral Services to follow at 4:00 p.m., Delhi United Methodist Church, Delhi, conducted by Pastor Keith Pitts with full military honors. Inurnment at a later date: Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa. Arrangements by Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester.
Archie was born August 4, 1925, in Corinth, North Dakota, the son of Gustave and Annie (Anderson) Walen. Archie served honorably in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yarnall during World War II and the Korean Conflict. On March 17, 1956, Archie married Patricia Anne Fiferlick in Fort Dodge and together they raised their five children. He worked for Frito Lay and retired from Dubuque Mercy Hospital in 1992. Archie was a member of the Delhi American Legion Post and Delhi United Methodist Church. On June 26, 2004, Archie and Jeanette (Foust) Fiferlick were married on Lake Delhi. Archie enjoyed waterskiing, up until 70 years old, on both Lake Okoboji and Lake Delhi. He liked mowing the grass, woodworking, playing cards and bingo, and driving for the Red Hat Society.
Archie is survived by his children, Sheree (Joe) Cupps of Dubuque, Jerald (Sherry) Walen of Dubuque, Barry (Patty) Walen of Dubuque, Karri (Shawn) Newman of Dubuque, and Terry (Kristin) Walen of Gilbertville; step-children, Steven Fiferlick of Manchester, Stuart Fiferlick of Fort Dodge, and Shad (Pam) Fiferlick of East Dubuque, Illinois; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Patricia and Jeanette; and two brothers and three sisters.
