My great grandparents had 12 children, but not all of them got to live long lives. They had to bury nine of their children and two did not survive their first year. Several of their sons lived to be skilled carpenters as their father. One son and daughter went to USA to seek their fortune there.
Osmund was born in Skjold and so was Ingeborg. Together they moved to the farm Svinekleiv and many of their children grew up there. They sold the farm and moved to Haugesund where he earned his living as a carpenter , building many houses in Haugesund. Osmund died in 1938, 87 years old. Ingeborg died in 1946 93 years old
Nils was born in Valevaag on the Valen farm. Sara was born on Eidsvaag not far away from Valevaag.Together they lived on the farm that Nils´s father bought in 1841. All their children war raised and grew up on the farm. Nils died in 1922, 76 years old. Sara lived on the farm with her sonand his wife until she died in 1941, 83 years old
